(9-24-23) Ethan Springer (Sr. • 5′ 11″ • 178 lbs) decided after being the back-up QB at Carroll last season that it was in his best interest to transfer to Ft. Wayne Bishop Dwenger. For the Saints and Springer it has turned out to be the right move.

For Springer it has been an interesting journey, with some highs and some lows.

Between his Sophomore and Junior season he lost a very close friend in Owen Scheele who passed away very suddenly after a very short battle with cancer. Scheele, who was a D I prospect and looked to be the starting QB at Carroll last season. With the passing of Scheele Springer would seem to have had a really good chance of becoming the Chargers next QB.

Until…just before the season started a sudden transfer from Homestead moved into the picture…Jimmy Sullivan, just a sophomore, was named the new starter. Springer would see limited action last year.

It made sense to move on as Sullivan is again the starting QB this year again for Carroll.

This past Friday Springer in just a half of action had his best game of the season in a 42-14 win over Northrup.

First five games at Dwenger—-

With Friday’s win over Northrup the Saints are now 3-3 on the season and have won two in a row, included in the streak is a win over Homestead.

Did you know…

The last time he wore a Carroll uniform was in the Indiana Class 6A title game when he replaced Sullivan after he was injured late in the 4th quarter.

He ended it with a bang!

Since it is the only time the Chargers have been in a state final game…the next time you play trivia with a friend be sure to ask –

Who is the only Charger QB to throw a TD pass in a state final game?

ETHAN SPRINGER
