OHSAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES
(February 15, 2024)

(3-1-24) Below is the latest financial report from the 2-14-24 Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Board of Directors meeting.

It might be noted that the expansion was NEVER offered to the membership for a vote, citing the rules and regulations of the association. However in the same meeting the board added a referendum on ‘moving up a class‘ to allow members to vote on that issue.

It was noted below that ‘general feedback‘ was positive, none of the feedback is documented in any form. This follows a trend of taking away members from deciding important issues…like expanding by the football playoffs by one week and doubling the qualifiers.

It might be noted that again every motion during the meeting was passed by a 9-0 vote, not unusual for the OHSAA Board of Directors.

The concept of using RPI to determine seeding was proposed by the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) and approved by the OHSAA Board of Directors last fall. 

The RPI formula was recommended by the OHSBCA, adopted by the OHSAA and is calculated using scores entered into MaxPreps. The formula is comprised of 40 percent winning percentage, 35 percent opponent’s winning percentage, and 25 percent opponent’s opponent’s winning percentage. The winning team is required to enter the score into MaxPreps, or for out-of-state opponents, the Ohio school must enter the score if it is not entered by the out-of-state school.
