(4-26-24) High School Basketball coaching changes in Ohio have been in full swing the past several weeks.

It seems each year that the turnover rate continues to rise. This includes retirements…but many are non-renewal of coaching contracts. Pressures on coaches continue to increase every year.

RECENT:

In Indiana…Tri-Township (LaCrosse, IN) Girls Basketball Coach Chris McGowen is on the hot seat.

The Tigers went 21-2, won the Porter County Conference at 5-1. Yet the school administration, school board members and some parents feel that it is time to relieve him of his coaching duties.

McGowen has been a math teacher in the district since 2019.

Veteran sports reporter Jim Peters shared his thoughts on TXitter about the situation-

The situation is unique to see a coach with one of the best seasons in school history who might be removed from the bench next season.

Unfortunately a lot of the coaches are leaving based on some of the same elements. Over the years coaching has moved from a part-time seasonal job…to a full-time year round position.

SSN requested by email asking school officials for a statement on the situation.

Brian McMahan, Principal replied-

We have no comment at this time. We do not answer questions about personnel until it’s been board approved.

Tri Township schools board met on April 22nd, Coach McGowen was not listed on the agenda and the minutes of the meeting have not yet been posted. The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for May 21st.
