
(5-12-26) Marion High School has named Johnnie Williams as its next boys basketball head coach.
Williams is a 1990 Marion graduate.
Williams has been a club basketball head coach in the Under Armour Association Circuit in Texas. Prior to that he was assistant coach for the Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball team, defensive coordinator and assistant coach for Alabama A&M University, director of operations and assistant coach for Texas Southern University and served as an assistant coach for Illinois Central College, Grambling State University, and Benedictine-Springfield University. He has also served as a high school basketball head coach and assistant coach.
After graduating from Marion, he played college basketball at Creighton University in Nebraska, and then at Morehead State University in Kentucky, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications.
In addition to being the basketball coach, he will also serve as a dean at Marion High School.
Williams replaces James Blackmon Sr. who retired at the end of this past season. To honor his 13 year career as head coach the Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees, voted to designate the court at Bill Green Arena as “James Blackmon Sr. Court.”
