(5-13-26) Recent events with football scheduling in the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) has put the future of the SAC in question.

Homestead and Carroll, both are not full members of the SAC, with the recent announcement that they are now not eligible for the football title because of dropping Concordia from the schedule. Making the the two ‘red-headed step-children’ …basically football independents (Concordia as well). They are now the ‘Notre Dames‘ of the SAC, playing a partial schedule of member schools to have a schedule in place. Not having a conference title to play is not something anyone wants to do.

Scheduling Agreement: Notre Dame plays five ACC opponents annually to bolster their schedule, while keeping their independence.

So how does this affect the remaining members…do the games against the three schools count in the standings in determining a SAC champion or will these games be considered a non-conference game.

Basically the three schools have sent a ‘Dear John‘ letter to the other members. Is this the proper etiquette for a conference member to do. It is a major disruption for every member.

Solutions? Dropping a conference member from a ‘set’ schedule is not the way. Homestead, Carroll could look for a new football conference, Concordia seems to need an overall conference change. Not doing anything to solve the issue will not be the answer.

Did you know?

In 2003 and 2004, Snider and Elmhurst did not play despite both being in the SAC due to competitive imbalance. The Panthers played Huntington North in 2003 and Lafayette Jeff in 2004, while Elmhurst took on Coldwater (OH) and Lima Senior (OH).
