(8-19-26) It has been a struggle this football preseason for Elwood. They have faced many ups and downs, including low numbers.

One positive…the Elwood administration has done and tried many different ways to keep the ‘ship afloat’.

Below is a social media update on the current status…

From Elwood Athletics

Just an update on our football program.
We are going to play Southern Wells this Friday night.

With a few kids who have stopped coming out, along with some injuries and a few others still waiting to get their physicals completed, we expect to have around 18 players available Friday night.

Moving forward, we are going to take our season week by week. Our number one priority will always be the health, safety, and well-being of our student athletes. We want to give our kids every opportunity to compete, but we also have to make sure we are doing what is best for them.

Our Week 7 game against Oak Hill has been canceled. We gave Oak Hill our blessing to schedule Northwestern, which is an opportunity that benefits their program. We are hopeful that having that additional week of rest will help our players recover and give us a better opportunity to make it through the remainder of the season.
Some of the other CIC teams on our schedule are also going to look at what other options may be available. We completely understand that every school has to do what is best for its kids and its football program.

Our goal is still to play as much of a full season as possible. We are going to continue working, continue showing up, and continue evaluating things one week at a time.

Most importantly, I want to thank the CIC Athletic Directors, the Elwood community and communities from all across the state that have reached out, encouraged our kids, and supported Elwood Panther Football. The amount of support we have received has meant more than you know, if you have no plans on Friday, I would appreciate you heading over to Southern Wells on Friday night and cheer on these kids.
