(10-14-26) The Luther Knights beat Arcadia 25-12, 25-15, 25-23 on Tuesday night in Onalaska — and it won’t count.
Luther athletic director Dan Unke confirmed the Knights are required to forfeit their Oct. 13 volleyball contest against the Arcadia Raiders due to an eligibility infraction, per News 8 Now Sports reporting.
What happened on the court
Luther swept the Raiders in straight sets Tuesday, with junior Audrey Clark leading the way at 10 kills, seven digs, two blocks and three aces. The win moved the Knights to 17-7 overall and 10-1 in the Coulee Conference, setting up a Thursday showdown with first-place West Salem (24-8, 11-0) for a shot at a share of the conference title.
What the forfeit means
The forfeit drops Luther to 9-2 in Coulee Conference play, awarding the win to Arcadia. Details of the eligibility infraction have not been publicly disclosed.
Thursday’s matchup with West Salem still goes on as scheduled — but the Knights’ path to a conference title share just got a lot steeper.
Luther athletic director Dan Unke, the Knights were required to forfeit their contest against the Arcadia Raiders from Tuesday, October 13.
“Following Tuesday evening’s volleyball contest against Arcadia, Luther High School discovered an unintended eligibility infraction and self-reported the violation to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). As a result, Luther has been required to forfeit the contest.
The forfeit changes the conference standings, eliminating Luther’s opportunity to compete for a share of the conference championship in Thursday’s October 15 matchup against West Salem. The game will proceed as scheduled.
The forfeit does not affect Luther’s postseason eligibility or playoff opportunities. Luther High School remains focused on preparing for the upcoming postseason and supporting its student-athletes as the season continues.”
The reason for the forfeit—
Unke told News 8—
“It was one of our student-athletes who has been recovering from a knee injury, that was not yet deemed eligible for participation. Our coaches were trying to give this student-athlete, who will miss the season, a special moment on the court, but didn’t think through all the ramifications of this decision. We self-reported so it won’t impact our team in the postseason.”
The student-athlete came in to serve, Arcadia won the point and she subbed out before the next play.
