Coldwater Head Bowling Coach Rick Hartings:
I have been a very fortunate coach over the years to have a great coaching staff, awesome hard working kids and a lot of support from our school, school administrators and parents.
It is really amazing how hard our boys and girls work at their game not just during the season, but in the off season as well. That is the difference maker, when you have them working on their game in the summer time.
Since we have had many trips to the state tournament, I feel we do prepare our bowlers to handle pressure situations. Our goals every year are to always get better during the season and try to win a couple of tournaments and win the conference title.
The best time of the year is always post season, because it just seems like every will raise their game to that next level to try and bring home that GOLD trophy. We were very fortunate again this year to have the girls win their 4th state title. Our boys bowled awesome at state leading qualifying, we just ran into a very good Woodridge team from the Akron area in the first round of match play, losing 3 games to 2. Very proud of all of our kids!
(3-6-17) One constant has been in place with the Coldwater bowling programs, Head Coach Rick Hartings. Hartings has been a pioneer in Ohio high school bowling from the inception. The Cavalier boys team have only known one coach and that is Hartings who started the program in 1999-2000 season and in 2010-11 he became the girls head coach.
Harting has been instrumental in the sport at the high school level; including being a key part of the formation of the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference (currently with 20 members). He is an owner of Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater and besides his coaching he is also a top bowler in the area.
Hartings has developed a program from the ‘foundation’ up. He will tell you that the formula is a team effort:
I have been a very fortunate coach over the years to have a great coaching staff, awesome hard working kids and a lot of support from our school, school administrators and parents.
The facts support the success of Cavalier bowling, seven state titles (3 boys and 4 girls) since the OHSAA started holding state tournaments in 2007. The Cavs added their latest title this past weekend with another girls championship in Columbus.

You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you’re going to have a strong superstructure.
