(11-4-17) The ‘Wonder Women’ of Minster, led by Emma Watcke, won the 2017 OHSAA State D III Championship and defending their title from last season. It is the 11th overall championship. It’s not the first time Minster has won consecutive trophies, they’ve don it twice before, (2008, 2009, 2010), (1999, 2000, 2001) and (2004, 2005). Even more impressive is they were almost 100 point better than runner-up Mt. Gilead 34-131. The Wildcats top seven runners finished and showed their depth with an impressive team finish scores of  1,3,6,9,13, 25 and 27.

Watcke picks up the State Individual Championship with a time of 18:38.4, 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Gracie Steime of Grand Valley who was running as an individual. Watcke has been nothing but ‘golden’ this season and today was her official crowning as the best runner in D III.

Other Wildcats, Gwendolyn Meiring 19:03.0, Kaitlynn Albers 19:12.6, Mackenzie Bohman 19:15.0, Ella Boate 19:26.5 and Madeline Magoto 20:14.5.

Two other MAC teams competed today, St. Henry finished in 13th, while Versailles was 11th.

St. Henry was led by Ashley Bruns (team placing) 36th place finish (20:25.5)  and Katie Kunkler was 39th (20:27.1).

Marion Local’s Kelsey Broering running as an individual was 30th overall in a time of 19:46.3.

Ft. Recovery’s Chloe Will finished 117 overall as an indivdual (21:14.6).
