Hoying, a first-year starter led the country in fumble recoveries with four. He also ranked sixth in the FBS with four forced fumbles and hauled in a pair of interceptions for EMU. Overall, he ranked 13th in the MAC with 78 tackles (44 solo, 34 assisted) to go along with four stops for a loss. He returned a pick-six in the season opener against UNC Charlotte, Sept 1, and followed it up with a 71-yard INT return against Rutgers University, Sept. 9, to help the Eagles to their first-ever win over a “Power 5” opponent. In total, Hoying’s 106 interception return yards rank seventh-most in an EMU single-season. For his efforts, he was named the league’s Player of the Week on Sept. 25 and the MAC’s Scholar Athlete of the Week on Sept. 27.

It is the second consecutive year, the Eastern Michigan saw eight team members named to All-Mid-American Conference Teams, the league office announced Wednesday, Nov. 29. The eight selections are tied for third-most in program history, with the 1986, 1988, 1996, and 2016 teams also posting the same amount of honorees.
