(5-11-19) Last year Emma Watcke was a member of the Minster (Ohio) girls track team, she would win a D III 1,600 meter state title, was a member of the state champion 3,200 meter relay team and would be 2nd in the 3,200 meter run and helping lead her team to an Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) D III (smallest class in Ohio) State title.
During the winter Watcke would move with her family to Illinois and ienrolled at Hinsdale Central and is a member of the Red Devils track program. Yesterday while her former teammates from Minster were running in the Midwest Athletic Conference meet, Watcke was at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 3A (largest class in Illinois) Sectionals (equivalent to Ohio’s Regionals) at Naperville North qualifying to run in next week’s state tournament.
Watcke qualified for the IHSA state meet in the 3,200 meter run in a fast-time of 4:54.91, finishing 2nd behind Glenbard West’s Katelynne Hart in a time of 4:51.4. Watcke is also a member of the 4 x 800 meter relay team who finished 4th and qualified with a time of 9:33.8.
Hinsdale Central finished 5th in the team scoring with 46 points, Glenbard West won the Sectional title with 95 points.
For Watcke this past year has been a change in her life, but on the track nothing has changed as she still competes at the highest level.
