(2-20-22) As the Antwerp Archers (21-1) get ready for sectional play…last night they made a strong statement about how good they really are when they knocked off Ft. Wayne Blackhawk Christian (16-4) 53-49.

Antwerp entered the game as the #1 ranked team in Ohio in D IV. Antwerp’s only lost this season was to league rival Wayne Trace (20-2) 54-50.
The Archers are led by Jagger Landers, who was just named the Division 4 District 7 Player of the Year, Gaige McMichael, Luke Krouse, Kaden Recker and Landon Brewer who scored 19 points in the win last night.
While Blackhawk Christian, one of Indiana’s top ranked small schools, was ranked tied for 3rd in 2A in the AP Poll last week. Last year they won the Indiana 2A State title, which was their 2nd title in 3 years. The Braves remain in 2A this season due to Indiana’s success factor.

Blackhawk Christian this season has lost to three Summit Athletic Conference teams….4A #5 Homestead in OT 69-62, 3A Ft. Wayne Bishop Dwenger 57-51 and 4A Ft. Wayne Snider 71-68.
The Braves have two regular season games remaining against SAC members Ft. Wayne Northrop and Ft. Wayne South Side…both 4A schools.
It may have just been a regular-season Saturday night non-conference game between schools from two different states…but it turned out to be one that makes high school basketball a big deal. In a few weeks we might see both schools hoisting a state championship trophy.
This coming Friday night the Archers, who had a 1st round bye, will play in the Sectional final against the winner of the Hilltop-Montpelier game being played on Tuesday.
