(3-18-22) Over the years the Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) has not been shy about patting themselves on the back for winning state titles. This weekend at UD not one MAC team will be going for a state boys basketball title…the second year in the row.
This season Marion Local reached the Regional Semifinals but lost to Antwerp 41-23.

In 2020 the OHSAA stopped tournament play a week short of the State Finals due to the pandemic. An unfortunate turn of events for Parkway who was due to play Columbus Grove in the Regional Final…none of those 8 teams that were denied a State Final trip have been honored for their accomplishments from the OHSAA.
The last trip to state by a MAC team was in 2019 when St. Henry lost in the State Semifinal game to Berlin Hiland 57-50. Hiland would lose to Crestview in the State Final game.
The last MAC team to win a title was in 2018 when Marion Local beat Cornerstone Christian in two overtimes 52-51.
Out of the 145 state titles the MAC has won only 10 are in boys basketball, compared to 39 in football. So what has happened to MAC basketball, has winning all of those football state titles watered down the quality of basketball?
Could it be that football has seven divisions and only four in basketball?
