(5-23-22) The Chelsea (Michigan) boys basketball team will have a new coach and it will be a woman, Andrea Cabana.
Cabana will replace Josh Tropea, who stepped down in April after six years and his second go-round with the program. Chelsea was 14-8, 9-3 last season and returns three all-conference players from last year’s Southeastern Conference White championship team
Cabana is the Director of the Michigan Premier program and has coached AAU basketball for 10 years, winning 3 AAU state titles and placing 12th (division 1) at AAU Nationals. Most recently her Premier high school teams have beaten several shoe program teams and have won several large national tournaments including…USJN Windy City Classic, USJN Memorial Day Challenge, LBI April Showers, and the Cincy Clash. 100% of her Michigan Premier alumni have earned college scholarships and are playing at the next level.

During her six-year tenure at Grass Lake as the girls head basketball coach, Cabana has led the team to a 111-24 record to go along with a state championship in Division 3 in 2021.
In 2017 she was awarded the Jackson Citizen Patriot coach of the year and the Associated Press’s all-state second team coach of the year. In 2019 she was once again named the MLive Jackson area coach of the year and the Associated Press’s all-state second team coach of the year. In 2021 she claimed Jackson County’s first ever girls basketball MHSAA State Championship and was named the Basketball Coaches Association Of Michigan and the Michigan High School Coaches Association coach of the year as well as coach of the year for MLive’s Dream Team, The Associated Press, and The Detroit News. She won a state championship at Grass Lake in Division 3 in 2021.
