(9-7-22) Ending a consecutive game losing streak in high school football can sometimes be tough to do. It seems teams tune-up against a team with a long losing streak…why? They don’t want to be that team that ends that streak.
With just a few weeks into the season it has been good news for some schools, this past week had several schools pick up that first win after very long losing streaks.
Streaks Ended
Highland Park (Ks) ended the state’s longest losing streak at 65 games beating Kansas City Wyandotte 60-47 this past weekend. The last time the Scots victory was in Week 2 of the 2014 season when they beat KC Harmon 60-26.
Litchfield (Illinois) Purple Panthers ended a 47-game losing streak, beating Staunton 22-14 this past weekend. The program’s last win came on Oct. 16, 2015, against Hillsboro.
Maine East (Illinois) ends 42-game losing streak beating Round Lake 13-6 this past weekend. The Blue Demons’ last win was a 16-13 victory over Chicago Schurz in the opening week of 2017.
MacArthur (Tx) beat San Antonio Holmes 42-33 to end a 29 game losing streak this past weekend.
Cortez (Az) ended their 50-game losing streak beating Coronado 15-13 on August 26, first win since 2016. This past Friday they lost to Dysart 36-6

- Pontiac (Mich) – The Streak: 34 games – Last Win: Def. Detroit Voyageur 28-8 on Aug. 24, 2018
Two Michigan schools are still looking to break their streaks, New Haven and Pontiac.
