(9-7-22) Whitko (Indiana) Schools released a statement on Tuesday that Head Football Coach Chip Coldiron has been “relieved of his duties” by Athletic Director Barry Singrey, “with the support” of principal Amy Evans.
Singrey said in the statement –
“We thank Coach Coldiron for his time as the head football coach, and we will continue to value him as a teacher. However, through further evaluation of the football program, we have decided that a change in leadership is necessary.”
“The assistant coaches will remain with the team and an interim coach will be named at a later date.”
Last Thursday Singrey and Coldiron met and and the AD recommended that Whitko cancel the Rochester game based on the Wildcats’ dwindling number of available players. Coldiron decided to play.
In a Times-Union Online story Coldiron said he was told by Singrey in a meeting late after Friday night’s 70-0 loss at Rochester that
“I need you either to resign or you’re going to be fired.”
It has been a tough year for Whitko, they have been shut-out three times this season, 39-0 vs. Prairie Heights, 60-0 vs Peru and Friday night’s loss to Rochester 70-0.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play Maconaquah (2-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Coldiron, a social studies teacher, will remain at Whitko.
