Belleville head coach Jermain Crowell

(11-3-22) Last week the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) opened an investigation into the football program at # 1-ranked Belleville, the defending Division 1 state champion.

At the center of the investigation is head coach Jermain Crowell and his alleged involvement with possible multiple undue influence violations.

The investigation was confirmed by Michigan High School Athletic Association executive director Mark Uyl.

The Tigers have made the state playoffs in each of Crowell’s eight seasons and they are currently in a 21-game winning streak.

Belleville athletic director Joe Brodie

“He is suspended, pending the investigation. I’m investigating and sending what I find to the MSHAA. I don’t know if they’re doing anything on their end or just taking what I’m finding.”

Crowell did not coach in the district semifinal win over Woodhaven, and he will not be on the sideline for Tigers in the district final against Saline on Friday

Belleville is an open district in Michigan and a school of choice.
