(2-2-23) At last night’s special Shawnee Local School board of education meeting, the board unanimously approved the installation of a new track in the football stadium. The cost of the project will be $724,800, the funds will be taken from the school districts permanent improvement accounts.

The BOE was first presented with a track presentation at their January 11th meeting.

Shawnee Athletic Director Steve Owen commented–

“I think we’re definitely stepping in the right direction … I would like to maybe next year apply and try to get some playoff games. Eventually I’d like to apply to get soccer matches or tournaments and down the road hope to get back in line for hosting district track as well.”

Shawnee has also applied for a grant that would help fund the refinishing of the tennis courts.
