(6-3-23) Wheelersburg scored 4 runs in the top of the 3rd and 2 more in the sixth and that is all they would need to beat Indian Lake 6-0 in the OHSAA D III State Softball Championship game in Akron.
The title gave the undefeated Pirates (2023 (1st) 2022 (1st), 2021, 2017 (2nd), 2016(1st), 2015, 2004 (2nd)) their 3rd state title. Wheelersburg, with the win, picks up back-to-back titles after beating Tuslaw last year 5-2.
Pirates pitcher Andi Jo Howard threw a gem from the circle holding the Lakers to just two hits, striking out 2 and walking just 1. On offense Catie Boggs had a big day at the plate going for 2 for 4, with a triple and a homer, with 4 RBIs and scored 2 runs. Macie Eaton went 2 for 3, with a double 1 RBI and scored 2 runs.
It was the Lakers first trip to the Final Four and they end up with D III State Runner-up trophy, then end the season with a sparkling 27-4.
