The phrase “redheaded stepchild” is a term used, mainly in the United States, to describe a “person or thing that is neglected, unwanted, or mistreated”.
(10-12-23) It seems that Liberty-Benton might be the ‘redheaded stepchild‘ in finding a new athletic conference home. After being ‘politely‘ asked to leave the Blanchard Valley Conference (BVC)…they were given until the end of the 2025-26 school year to find a new home. Dominating BVC championships in numerous sports and continued student growth can be blamed for invitation for leaving.
- Toledo Blade Story (6-23-23) – Clock ticking for Liberty-Benton in league search
According to the June, 2023 Blade story Liberty-Benton has not found interest from any area conference for future membership, including the Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC), the Sandusky Bay Conference (SBC), the Northern Lakes League (NLL) and the Northwest Conference (NWC).
Interesting to note that during their search a Liberty-Benton administrator informed SSN they had nothing to report on finding a conference home, apparently according o the Blade story they did have some information on their hunt. Since the Eagles decided to leave the BVC they lost one Superintendent to the Bowling Green job and recently brought in a new Superintendent. The new Superintendent and other administrators have decided not to answer our constant emails for any kind of update.
Looking over the Liberty-Benton Board of Education information on the system’s web site…agendas and minutes have seen no discussion on the current search, feeling that the school community doesn’t need to be in the loop.
