(8-31-26) The Major League Baseball Cleveland Indians announced in 2021 that it would be changing its name from the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians. The name went into effect following the conclusion of the 2021 season.
Team Owner and Chairman Paul Dolan
“There were a lot of challenges to find the right name and then make sure the name was available for use. It took a lot of time and a lot of extraordinary effort. Add to that, it was all done during a global pandemic. … I’m not sure that it’s finally over. But I am glad that we’ve entered the phase now where the name is out there and we can begin to promote what will be our future. That’s actually exciting.”
But for those die-hard baseball fans in Cleveland, Ohio they now have a Cleveland Indians team to root for in Texas.

The Cleveland High School Indians football team defeated the Spring Woods Tigers 26-11 on Friday, August 28, 2026.
- Historic Win: The victory snapped a 36-game losing streak for Cleveland.
- First Win in Years: It was the program’s first win since September 23, 2022.
- Record: Cleveland improved to 1-0 under coach Ajani Sanders.
- Next Game: Cleveland plays against Aldine.

Logo History: The district previously used an Indian head logo, but transitioned to a stylized letter “C” with a spear to be more respectful of indigenous communities.
Cleveland ISD Superintendent Darrell Myers
“The reason we have changed the logo is to be sensitive to indigenous people. The Indian head logo can have a negative connotation to it. In order to project a positive image, we went with the C with the spear.”
No word if the school will decide to someday become the ‘Guardians‘.
