(9-25-26) Transfer issues are out of control in Ohio. To be fair numerous other states have the same issues facing them. The OHSAA is giving out rulings and now courts are overturning or delaying some of them.
No one wins …kids miss playing games, the association and schools are seeing spending money on lawyers mount.

Why is Elder’s star wide receiver ruled ineligible for the remaining high school football season?
Andrew Lyman transferred from King to Elder. Per Ohio High School Athletic Association transfer rules, any high school football player who transfers become ineligible after 50% of the regular season— if they participated in that sport over the last 12 months.
Because Lyman played the entire high school football at King in 2025, he will not be eligible past Week 5 of the 2026 season because he participated in the same sport at a different school less than 12 months ago. His season is over.
There are 12 exceptions to the unusual transfer eligibility rule:
- Parents’ Bona Fide Move into a New Public School District
- Change of Legal Custody
- School Closing, Annexation or Consolidation
- Special Programs Requirements / IEP
- Academically Poor-Performing Schools
- Move to a Home Not Ready for Residence
- Bullying, Harassment, Indimidation
- Self-Supporting Students
- International Baccalaureate Program
- Discontinuation of Entire Athletic Program
- Death or Hardship in the Immediate Family
- Superintendent Hardship Agreement
