(1-19-17) Derek Jay is making his Senior year a very special one. The 6’4 Senior is just 28 points away before passing Mark Ashman (1,194 – 1993-96) as the All-Time Roughrider career scoring leader. The four-year starter will have his first shot at the record on Friday night at home in a WBL contest against Elida or on Saturday night on the road against Upper Scioto Valley.
Jay can continue to add onto that total with 10 total regular season games remaining and at least one tournament game.
Jay already is the career leader in 3-point field goals made, with 184. His totals in all four years of his career are all listed in the single-season part of the record book, as a Freshman he hit 43, as a Sophomore he had 56, his Junior year he had 43 again and this season he already has 42. Austin James (2012-13) leads this category with 67 made in a single-season.
Jay is presently third on the all-time for career free throws made list with 279, Damon Goodwin (1979-82) leads the way with 314 made.
One of the main reasons Jay has put the big numbers up during his career is due to his durability, he has currently played in 83 games the past three-and-a-half years, Garet Fledderjohann (2009-13) presently leads the way with 85 games played.
