1999 AP Poll – D I

In 1999 Celina won the D I AP Poll, the award was handed out before the final regular season games were played, at that time Celina was 19-0 and they had just recently knocked off Toledo Central Catholic 63-62 who had been the #1 team. As luck would have it in the final regular season game the Bulldogs would lose to Delphos St. Johns 50-46 and end the season at 19-1.  But they were the 1999 D1 AP Poll Champions.

The Bulldogs picked up the 1999 WBL title going 9-0, it was their first league championship since 1994.

Celina would move on to tournament play, after getting a first-round bye they would win the Sectional Final beating Bowling Green 59-40.  In the District semifinal game, the Bulldogs beat  #4 State ranked Lima Senior 72-63 in a front of a packed house at Liberty Benton.

Next up for the Bulldogs, in the District Final, would be a rematch with Toledo Central Catholic. In another close game the Bulldogs this time would drop a heart-breaker to TCC 64-61. In the two games between them, a total of four points separated the winner from the loser. With the loss the Bulldogs ended the year at 21-2.
