11-11-17 – Versailles finished the season ranked 9th in the final D III volleyball rankings, today they are all alone at #1. The Tigers upset #1 Coldwater in four sets 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-9 to win the D III state title in the battle of Midwest Athletic Conference rivals.

It looked like the Tigers would win in the 4th set leading 15-9, but the Cavs would come back and take a 25-21 win. Despite the let down Versailles would come back to win the final set 15-9 and win the school’s 2nd state volleyball title (1st was in 2013).
Danielle Winner had 25 kills and Elizabeth Ording added 21 to lead Versailles. Other Tigers who contibuted to the win with 54 assists and 14 digs, Kami McEldowney had 38 digs, Kate Stammen had 19 and Caitlin McEldowney had 14.

Leading the Cavs,Tasha Kahlig had 19 kills and Lauren Gilliland had 18. Taylor Siefring had 23 digs and Olivia Harlamert added 23. Elena Knapke had 47 assists.
With the Versailles win the MAC claimed two state titles today at the Nutter Center, earlier in the day New Bremen picked up their first state volleyball title in the D IV match. It’s the third time the MAC has won two in the same season, 1990 (St. Henry and Fort Recovery), 2013 (Marion Local and Versailles).
