(4-18-18) Antonio Maestranzi will be the new head coach at Rockford Guilford, he replaces veteran Head Coach Dean Martinetti.

Maestranziis is a Bartlett native who played at Northern Illinois University from 2002 to 2006 before a three-year basketball career in Europe. This will be his first high school head coaching position. He has been a varsity assistant at Marmion Academy in Aurora, a head coach in AAU basketball and an instructor at skills academies in Chicago.

Carl Armato, a Guilford assistant this year, will stay on as an assistant for the upcoming season.

“Basketball opened a lot of doors for m. It’s given me not only great basketball experiences, but also great life experiences and connections to people who have had significant positive effects on my life. That’s the main thing I want these young to do: work to become champions on the court, in the classroom, and in life.”

Maestranzi plans on relocating to Rockford and Guilford is working on a schedule for him to meet his new players. Both coaches have to be approved by the school board.

RPS 205 has now replaced two veteran coaches with coaches with no head coaching experience.
