“Do or do not. There is no try.”

– Yoda

(11-12-18) This Friday night it will be a re-match of two MAC powers, Marion Local and Coldwater, the winner is one step closer to a D VI OHSAA state football championship. The first time these two played in the final game of the regular season Coldwater pulled out a double-overtime win over the Flyers 26-20 and ended the state’s longest consecutive winning streak.

Last week Coldwater was able to reverse one of their regular season losses knocking off county rival St. Henry 20-19, now Marion Local has a chance to do the same this week against the Cavaliers.

So how do future Hall of Fame coaches Tim Goodwin and Chip Otten prepare for a re-match? That is what makes this game one of the top match-ups in the state.

The winner on Friday night will be the lone representative of the MAC,  after defending D VII State Champion Minster (this will be the first year a MAC team will not be in the D VII state title game) was knocked off on Friday night by the Northwest Conference’s Crestview Knights. This is the second year since the competitive balance plan was implemented by the OHSAA that moved Coldwater from D V to D VI.
