(3-12-20) It has been an emotional week for high school sports fans in Ohio. First the announcement that tournament games would allow only ‘select fans’ and media to attend tournament games. Now today the announcement that all winter tournaments are suspended due to the coronavirus concerns.
The announcement follows those from pro and college sports suspending or cancelling their seasons. Other state associations are also considering the same issues for their tournaments.
Twitter was active on the issue…
man all i wanna do is play ball…😪

West Branch girls warming up here at St. John Arena but don’t expect a full game. According to sources around the arena, the OHSAA plans to cancel/postpone the entire state tournament in the next hour or so. Tip is 1 PM. Nothing official till Governor DeWine addresses at 2PM. pic.twitter.com/bghIKM3WTl

You and @Jerry_Snodgrass are complete idiots. This will all go down as one of the dumbest things to ever happen. Only people suffering are the kids and the opportunity they earned and you took away for your PR reasons

@Jerry_Snodgrass should personally apologize face to face to EVERY single athlete. WHAT A F-IN SHAME!!!!!

If the @OHSAASports cancels springs sports I will be thoroughly annoyed. Our girls have worked hard all winter and spring for now. To have them take away this season, is ridiculous. Plus we're outside!

@Jerry_Snodgrass my hat is off to you for a calm, reasonable hand on the tiller this week. This whole thing is sad, especially for the athletes. Thanks for doing the right thing. #leadership

4 years we have worked our asses off for this. Our last shot taken with one press release. Even if it’s postponed, how many wrestlers can keep their weight down for much longer? Our bodies are already shot and some of us need fixed before we go onto college. Beyond disappointed.

Our journey was awesome. We finished 26-0. We played every day as #TODAY, I am so incredibly proud of our 2020 team.#tenacious all the time, on and off the court. ❤️ 🏀🔴⚫️ https://t.co/qdBmW8rF86

The day turns from happiness to sadness so quickly. But can never take away the personal growth and improvement these ladies made over the last 5 months. Proud of each of them. Special young ladies. #BELIEVE pic.twitter.com/htPEWSv4Qx
