(12-13-20) The University of Evansville Purple Aces entered the 1977 season as a powerhouse in the NCAA’s College Division. Tragedy struck the team, the University, and the Evansville community when the plane carrying the Purple Aces crashed on December 13th, 1977 at 7:22 p.m. in the Melody Hills subdivision. The plane had only been in flight for less than two minutes when it crashed. The crash not only left debris, but also a large hole in the hearts of those in the Evansville community, and in the loved ones of the victims. They are gone, but never forgotten.
