(3-12-22) Last night in OHSAA D IV boys basketball Regional finals play Antwerp (26-1) knocked off undefeated Tiffin Calvert 52-31, while Tri-Village (23-3) beat defending D IV state champion Botkins 45-36. Those two team will match-up next Saturday (3-19-22) at 2pm at UD Arena.

Sarver

WOAC Player of the Year Layne Sarver’s game-high 20 points led Tri-Village to the win and a chance to advance to State.

Patriots’ head coach Josh Sagester told Press Pros Magazine after the game:

“Layne is special. Layne is big and long and athletic and can get his shots off. Sometimes, that’s half the battle when you’re playing good teams because he can elevate and go over the top.

Botkins on January 16th had beaten the Patriots 51-50 in double overtime, so for the Patriots that had an extra meaning in last night’s win in tournament play.

Landers

Antwerp has had a season to remember…it will continue after last night picking up their first ever Regional title and State Tournament visit.

Northwest Player of the Year Jagger Landers led the Archers over Tiffin Calvert with a game-high 21 points, including 17 rebounds. The Archers can play defense too, holding Calvert’s leading scorer Garrett Spaun to just two points.

Archers coach Doug Billman told the Advertiser-Tribune after the game

“It seemed like we were stuck at 16 (points) for forever, but during that time we continued to defend and I think that really was the key. We had the opportunity to score, but we didn’t convert those, but we continued to guard. I thought we did an outstanding job on (Spaun). We have a lot of respect for him as a player, but we did a great job on him. Our guys just continued to execute what we talked about in our two days of prep. The big thing also was that we rebounded the basketball. When you face a good offensive team like they have, when they miss, you better rebound it and hold them to one shot.”
