Thanks to Warsaw Athletic Department…

(1-2-23) The Warsaw Athletic Department and Warsaw Tiger Basketball have announced that the Warsaw-Penn Boys Basketball game on January 10, 2023, will be played at the Lakeview Middle School Gymnasium.

Lakeview Middle School was built in 1960, and the gymnasium is known as The Tiger Den was home to Warsaw basketball teams until the construction of the current WCHS in time for the 1989-90 basketball season.

Current Penn Head Coach Al Rhodes was the Tigers head coach from 1980-81 until leaving after the 2001-2002 season. He won 405 games in Warsaw and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

The “Old Tiger Den” was the site of many classic games and sectional and regional tournament basketball games. Among them was Warsaw’s 55-52 upset of the Marion Giants January 18, 1986, which ended their undefeated streak of 40 games—an upset orchestrated by Rhodes.

Rhodes will be back coaching in that gym for the first time since Warsaw moved out and into the new school in 1990.
