(7-9-24) On May 6th, 2022 Liberty-Benton announced that they would be leaving the Blanchard Valley Conference after the 2025-26 school year. As of today that decision is drawing closer to finding the Eagles a new conference home or the life of an independent.

Liberty-Benton has taken the path of ‘silence is golden‘ and nothing on public record has been disclosed on what is happening with the upcoming deadline. Checking recent board agendas on the L-B web site does not show or indicate that is anything is happening….NOTHING.

Since the announcement of the Eagles leaving the BVC…SSN has tried numerous time to get updates or even acknowledgement that something is taking place. Since the announcement of leaving the BVC a change of Superintendents took place…the first superintendent did reply with a ‘nothing to reports at this time‘…after the new superintendent was in place SSN has not received a reply to our request.

One item that will be pressing in the future is scheduling…most schools usually or try to have schedules in place for the following two years. L-B is already in the final cycle with the final season of BVC competition being after this year.

Some would say no hurry…ask Lima Senior who is now in the Toledo City League, ask the four Toledo Catholic schools who now travel to the Detroit area for their new conference. How about the Northwest Conference who had to add two members in a last minute move…which included Ft. Loramie (football only) who is in the Southwest District and Lima Central Catholic who had been a NWC member but was forced to leave rejoined in this shake-up. By the way Liberty-Benton was turned down for NWC membership.

With that all said…finding a new conference home is not something to take lightly…it takes work and sometimes you don’t find a perfect spot to land. Not informing the community members of the process is not a good practice, especially at a public school.
