(10-25-24) Ft. Wayne (Indiana) Police Department investigators say that Willie Vonzell Ivy III was allegedly the person who fired nine shots first at a Halloween Party last Friday, according to a joint statement between the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. The nine shots struck nine people who were attending the party.

A man who was one of the nine shot returned fire hitting Ivy. Ivy was found dead in the yard of a home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This man will not face criminal charges as his actions were justified under established Indiana self-defense law,”

Ft. Wayne North Side’s football team has a bye week in the IHSAA Class 5A Football Playoffs this week and will play Concord next Friday night.

Willie Vonzell Ivy III, affectionately known as “Chooch,” passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born on February 9, 2007, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Willie’s promising life was tragically cut short.

Willie had a beautiful soul and his smile would light up any room. His family meant everything to him and he was the definition of loyalty. There was nothing to big or too hard that he wouldn’t do for those he loved. Willie had the biggest heart and cared as much about others happiness as he did about his own.

A junior at North Side High School, but was going to graduate as a senior of the class “2025”.

Willie was an outstanding student-athlete with college aspirations. As team captain of the North Side Varsity Football Team, he embodied strength and dedication on the field, wearing jersey #99 with pride.

Standing at 6’1″ and 230 lbs., Willie’s presence was undeniable. His passion for football earned him two college scholarship offers. Beyond sports, Willie enjoyed playing video games and sharing laughter with loved ones.

Willie’s remarkable spirit, achievements, and memories will forever be cherished by his family, friends, teammates, and community.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gloria Ivy; grandfather, Willie Ivy Sr.; great grandfather, George Cornett and aunt, Cheryl Rommel.

Left to cherish in his gentle giant spirit are his mother, Sierra R. Roberts; father, Willie V. Ivy III; sisters, Asia and Na”Viah Ivy; brothers, Taurris Carlisle, Bryce Gibson; grandmother, Kimberly (Jermaine) Jenkins; grandfather, Gerardo Aquirre; great grandmother, Jean Ball; aunts, Monica Aguirre, Veronica (Cornell Sanders) and Vickii Ivy; uncles, Anthony Aguirre, Nickii Ivy, Brandon Reeves and Brennon Reeves along with a host of cousins, other relatives, classmates, faculty , and the North Side Legends Football Team.

A visitation for Willie will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes – Foster Park, 6301 Fairfield Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46807, followed by a celebration of life at 1:30 pm.
