(6-9-26) This week started off with a bang when Ft. Wayne Concordia made the announcement that they were leaving the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) for the Allen County Athletic Conference (ACAC).

Concordia is in Allen County, they become the 8th member that will give the ACAC football scheduling relief. They become the 2nd largest member in the conference, just behind Jay County. They should become competitive in the conference immediately, especially in football. Concordia is the first private school to be a member in the ACAC.

The Cadets are the big winners in the change of scenery.

Nobody was ‘shocked‘ at Concordia’s departure…in the past several weeks it was announced that Concordia would not be playing either Homestead or Carroll in football in the future. That lit the RED LIGHT‘ of concern.

So what does the SAC plan on doing now? Good question!

The SAC is now down to 9 members in boys and girls basketball and football. Since Carroll and Homestead don’t compete in any of the other SAC sports they are down to 7 full-time members. The two big schools…should they now be added as a full-time members of the SAC? Maybe an expansion member is on the horizon.

So what do the SAC members do for football scheduling? Concordia is set to join the ACAC in 2027-28…that leaves all of the remaining SAC members looking to fill one open date (unless the SAC can fill Concordia’s spot). Most scheduling for that season has already been booked by many schools. This will also give each member 3 non-conference games, since the change in SAC scheduling made the 1st two weeks of the season a non-conference game.

Ok…how do you think Southern Wells followers feel today? They had considered moving to another conference (Mid-Eastern Conference) recently to find some competitive balance…bringing Concordia in does not do that for the Raiders. The ACAC told Southern Wells officials, who wanted to be a part of both conferences…that they had to choose between the two conference choices…they decided to remain in the ACAC.

The next couple of months should be interesting.

Keep an eye on Blackhawk Christian…never to early to speculate is it!

A simple way for a school to decide their athletic future in an athletic conference.
