Myia Clark (1) St. Viator

(2–22-18) Patience paid off for Carmel  at the 3A Sectional Championship game at Woodstock North beating St. Viator 29-23 and moving on to the Super-Sectional match-up with Glenbard South (who beat Sycamore 41-21) this coming Monday at Burlington Central. The winner of that game will go to Peoria for the State Final Four in 3A.

The night started out with the Lions running the floor with an impressive 12-3 first quarter lead, thanks to six points each by Seniors Myia Clark and Olivia Solimene, who had 3 from behind the arc.

But the next three quarters would see a completely different paced game. The Corsairs sat back in a 3-2 zone and St. Viator was happy to sit back and hold and pass the basketball for the next three quarters.

The fourth quarter was when Carmel finally took control of the game and it started with the first possession of the quarter. The Corsairs trailing by 7 entering the quarter would go on to score 15 points, one more point than what they had scored in the combined first three quarters.

The big basket came on a three pointer by Junior Caitlin Teehan and at 5:13 to go she would hit the go-ahead lay-up to give the Corsairs the 22-21 lead and they would not trail again.

St. Viator was unable to find the hoop in the final quarter missing numerous opportunities, scoring only two points on a Clark lay-up.

Sophomore guard Ranya Jamison was the spark-plug all night for Carmel and she led the Corsairs with 11 points, including making 5 of 6 from the free throw line, Teehan ended up  with7 points, Shai Horton added 5 points, Katie Lach had 4 points and Brigit Barr added 2.

The Corsairs were 10 of 15 from the free throw line and had just one 3-pt FG on the night.

The Lions had only three players dent the scoring column in the loss, led by Clark with 11 points, Solimene with 10 points and Bridget DeZellar with 2 points.

St. Viator only went to line 5 times, all by Clark who was 3 of 5. Solimene had two 3-pt FGs, both in the 1st quarter .
