(2-28-18) Celina picked up a revenge win in the Sectional opener beating one of their biggest rivals St. Marys 57-45. Most likely it was a game that the Bulldogs had been looking forward to playing after their regular season loss to the Roughriders in early February.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the #1 team in the State in D II and last season’s State runner-up Wauseon. Celina will have their hands full with a veteran Indian team that is on a mission to return to Columbus.

The Indians are led by one of the top centers in Ohio and the US according to several scouting services. 6’9 Senior Center Austin Rotroff, a Duquesne commit, who scored 18 points and 9 rebounds in last season’s State title game will be a load for the Bulldogs to handle.

Helping out the Indians will be NWOAL 1st teamer Brooks Gype (6’3), 2nd teamer Levi Seiler (6’4) and Trent Armstrong (5’11) and Owen Newlove (6’3).

Celina and Wauseon have had one common opponent this season, both beat Defiance. Celina beat them on January 26th 54-46, earlier in January (13th)  the Indians beat them 51-31.

Defensively Wauseon held opponents 30 points or below seven times, including beating Tinora 40-19 in December. They had one close call win over Northern Lakes Conference Champion Southview (21-1) on January 6th 48-43, it was the Cougars only loss this season.

The Bulldogs had a tough season and enter the game at 6-17, but one of those wins included a big upset win on the road beating state ranked St. Henry (19-3) on February 3rd 74-69.

The Bulldogs will count on Senior Kole Murlin, a 2nd Team All WBL selection, who averages 12 points and 6 rebounds a game. From outside Junior Brett Schwieterman scores at 10 points a game and had 30 3’s on the season, he has help on the outside with Kyle Flaute who has 25 3-point FGs.

The two will play Friday night at Findlay HS at 6pm.
