(5-29-18) A preview of three Mercer County girls who will be competing at this week’s OHSAA State Track and Field Meet in Columbus at the Jesse Owens Stadium.
In the D III 400 meter dash Parkway’s Sydney Crouch (Sr) and Ft. Recovery’s Cassidy Martin (Jr) will compete in the prelims, both will be in different heats.
Crouch, this year’s SSN All Mercer County MVP, recently won the MAC Championship, the District meet and was fourth at Regionals. She has the fourth fastest seeding time in Heat 2 with a time of 58.02, the fastest seeding time belongs to Portsmouth Lynsey Shipley at 57.18.
Cassidy was 3rd at the MAC meet, 2nd at Districts and was 5th at Regional and qualified as the only at-large participant in the 400.
In the 1st heat Martin will have the 6th fastest time of the nine competing with a time of 59.14. This heat also features the fastest seeding time of 57.02 by Archbold’s Dakota Stamm.
The runners who take the top two places in both heats (Friday at 11am), plus the next five fastest times will qualify for the State Final race on Saturday.
Crouch will also race in the 200 meter dash, picking up an at-large bid. Crouch finished 5th at Regionals with a time of 26.0, the top time belongs to Malvern’s Zoe Moser at 24.90.
Celina’s Lauren Jackson (Sr) comes into the D II 800 meter run on a ‘hot streak’, she has won the WBL, District and Regional titles. Her seeding time of 2:16.99 gives her the 10th fastest time among the 18 runners. The top two times include, Gates Mills Hawken’s Ella Gilson with the top time of 2:15.77 and right behind her is Catherine Coffey of Chagrin Falls with 2:15.79.
