Dayton Dunbar has faced issues in the past with the OHSAA. Dunbar’s Boys Basketball Team was ineligible for post-season play in 2018-19 season, plus the school will be on probation until 2022. The sanctions also includes all DPS schools that will be on probation until 2020.
And the wonder why very few want to officiate for $40-$70 a game these days…especially in these kinds of contests? Meanwhile OHSAA will be scratching their heads in an effort to “Spin” this as something they never saw coming…

coacher that was a nasty remark about the refs and the player that headbutt the official should be demissed from the team and maybe expelled and then charged with assaulting the official. players should play but not when they are dirty and assaulting a game official.

Coacher…not sure where your getting your information, but I as a varsity football official have never seen $100 for a regular season football game. In fact the closest is $75. And let me help you break this down for you. We are required to be at the school 1 1/2 hours before game time. So if the start time is 7pm we typically leave our jobs at 4 pm to gather our stuff and travel the the school. The games end around 9:30. We shower then grab a bite to eat and then travel 1 hour home. So in most cases 7 hours of time for $65-$75 = $10.71 per hour. This does not include any mileage which we don’t get reimbursed for or out of pocket cost for food. We don’t do it for the money my friend it’s for the love of the game and our fellow officials.
And if we did what you stated “ just let them play” you would probably have an issue with that to.
Grab a whistle and take a class to become an official and see what it’s all about.
