(10-12-19) The Western Buckeye League held their 2019 cross championships at Defiance today.

The Shawnee girls held on to beat Celina 59-64 and win their 5th conference title and the first one since 2011. The Indians were led by a 5th place finish by Senior Celia Spieles. The Bulldogs had three runners finish in the top 10, Kaylie Dameron (Frosh) was 2nd, Joscelyn Dameron (Soph) was 3rd and Caleigh Ross (Sr) was 10th.

Van Wert Senior Caylee Phillips picked up the individual title with a 1st place finish with a time of 18:42.78, the Cougars finished 3rd with 83 points.

In the boys meet Defiance picked up their 5th consecutive and 26th overall conference title. The Bulldogs easily outdistanced O-G 22-77,  while placing all seven runners in the Top 12, including Mhalicki Bronson (12) who won the individual title with a time of 15:23.85. Teammates Cooper Morton and Brennen Roehrig finished 2nd and 3rd, Colin Moats was 6th.

Locally St. Marys’ Noah Tobin (12) was 5th and Celina’s Ethan Ly (12) was 9th.
