(7-27-21) The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) today in an Administrator Update is pushing for member schools to promote masks and vaccinations for the start of the school year-

Four items listed in the update included –

  • It is highly recommended that coaches and student-athletes who are eligible for vaccinations to be vaccinated.
  • It is highly recommended that those who are unvaccinated wear masks in indoor facilities and in outdoor facilities where there are crowded situations.
  • It is highly recommended that those who are unvaccinated maintain three-to-six feet of social distancing indoors and at outdoor facilities where there are crowded situations.
  • The OHSAA encouraging its member schools to partner withCOVID-19 vaccine providers in their communities to set up vaccination clinics for eligible students

This conflicts with numerous local school districts who have already said that masks and vaccinations will not be required at the opening of the school year.

Yesterday…

Celina City Schools Superintendent Dr. Ken Schmiesing verified a no mask mandate:

As of June 2, 2021, face masks have been optional for Celina City Schools students and staff. We have not had any problems with this in regards to operating our summer enrichment programs, which includes busing.

We continue to work closely with the Mercer County Health District, and feel that having the masks as being an option for Celina City Schools students and staff is the best decision for us at this time.
