(2-28-23) As we head into the final months of the school year the high school athletic conference situation reminds you a lot of a medieval juggler with to many objects in the air and trying to keep them all from falling.

Leagues and conferences if they are going to make changes, adding or removing a member, it needs to be done before the end of the year. A lot of that has to do with scheduling issues for the future due to signed contracts, etc.

Having kept in contact with Liberty-Benton school administrators this past year the standard reply has been…’nothing to report’.

Years later and LCC is still looking for a conference home.

This is the final year of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, it was basically a private vs public situation…next school year five Catholic schools are headed to a Michigan conference, multiple members to the the Northern Lakes League and one to the Toledo City League.

The Blanchard Valley Conference has been a ‘mess‘ for several years now…schools leaving, schools dismissed, etc.

The Northwest Central Conference has been a refuge for many schools that have had a hard time competing in their current leagues. The NWCC has been a life-saver for many of them in re-establishing their athletic programs.

So now we wait to see how all of these changes work out for everyone…long time, short time, etc. Is there a solution that will solve issues like this in the future?
