Two responses have been filed in the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission’s case with the state supreme court over high school football playoff injunctions.

Injunctions were filed following a ruling in Wood County over the weekend that called for the WVSSAC to use a rating formula based on classifications prior to the season after complaints that teams were unable to change their schedules at the last minute, resulting in the loss of ratings points due to having to play teams in another classification.

Cabell County Schools and a member of the Lincoln County High School football team also filed motions prior to the deadline to enter the case.

The Class AAA play-in games originally scheduled for Saturday was canceled,

No timetable has been given on when a ruling could come.

The responses, filed on behalf of teams in Mason and Wood counties, were filed Monday morning ahead of a 1 p.m. deadline. The West Virginia Supreme Court previously said it would consider the case following the deadline.

“We filed the Writ with the supreme court, now we are at the mercy of their timeline. Obviously we are hoping for a ruling in the near future. There is no guarantee.

We are in postpone mode until a ruling by the supreme court. We are hoping for within 72 hours, but that’s all we know. We are waiting to hear which rating system we will use. The one we had all year or that ruled by the Wood County injunction.”
