(9-3-17) When scores were coming in from Friday night games it looked like was going to be a tough night for MAC schools in week 2 of non-conference play. Three of the top football schools all suffered losses, Coldwater, Ft. Recovery and Versailles. The good news, the other seven all picked up wins, including New Bremen and Parkway.
How rare has it been for Coldwater and Ft. Recovery? The last time the Cavaliers lost a non-conference regular season game was to Kenton 22-2 in 2013 and the last time it happened to the Indians was to Ansonia 52-49 in 2009. Pretty impressive runs for both schools.
For the first two weeks the MAC goes 16-4 in non-conference games, another strong showing by the MAC members. This week is the first week of MAC play and the battle for playoff spots for the Mercer County schools in D VI and Region 24.

Last year the Cavs came from behind to beat the Flyers 17-14, there only loss in 2016. Since that loss they have won a State Championship and 14 games in a row, the longest winning streak in Ohio, thanks to Akron Hoban losing their season opener to St. Ignatius 17-3.
The current longest winning streak in the US is Kimberly’s (Wisconsin) 59 consecutive game streak.
For Coldwater, since losing in the State finals, they have now lost two of their last three games.
The second most important event happening at the game on Friday night will be the 50-50 drawing. The drawing at the Cavs/Flyers games are becoming legendary, it should be another big one this weekend.
