(6-14-21) Myles Busby has been named the new Niles boys basketball coach. For the past three seasons Busby, a 2012 Niles graduate, has been an assistant coach.
Busby, who had served as interim coach during the 2021 tournament, replaces Patrick Touhey, who was a past Vikings girls coach (2009-14). Touhey was hired for the boys job in June of 2019. Touhey submitted his resignation this past March just before the start of the state tournament. Most likely leading to the resignation…Touhey had been suspended for the district tournament after an incident between him and a varsity player.
Busby has been a part of the Niles program since playing for former Niles Coach Todd Pawielski, was an assistant coach under him and remained on the coaching staff when Touhey replaced Tyler Dendy in 2019.
Busby became the interim head coach for the final two games of the 2021 regular season — a 47-39 loss to St. Joseph on March 16 and a 46-37 loss at Buchanan on March 19. Busby led the Vikings to a 57-55 win in a Division 2-District 45 boys basketball tournament game on March 23rd, they would lose to Lakeshore 70-50 two nights later on March 25th. Busby will enter his first full season as the Vikings coach with a 1-3 coaching record.
