(6-23-22) Former Ft. Recovery boys basketball coach Jim Melton has been hired to take over the Monroe Central program near his home in Randolph County Indiana. He replaces Justin Ullom, who left to take over the Muncie Central program after eight years with the Golden Bears.
Melton coached previously at Park Tudor, where he was a part of three 2A state championships and worked with professionals including Jaren Jackson Jr., Yogi Ferrell and Trevion Bluiett. Melton has also coached at Winchester and Arcanum in Ohio.

His last head coaching job was in Ohio at Fort Recovery, where Melton went 37-25 in three seasons.
Melton to the Muncie Star Press –
“My time was up and it’s time to get back to Indiana. I’m a Hoosier at heart, and there’s nothing like coaching Indiana high school basketball.
It’s a little more physical, it’s (Ohio) a football state. The games are called and officiated entirely different … they let a lot more contact and things go on of that nature, so that was an adjustment. Coaching in Ohio was a great experience because I was able to see different strategies, different approaches.”
In the Star Press article he still says he hasn’t received an explanation why he was non-renewed, only that his former assistant coach is now the Ft. Recovery coach . Melton declined to go into the details…but said you can-
“put two and two together.”
