(6-9-19) The Coldwater Cavaliers picked up their seventh OHSAA state baseball championship tonight in Akron beating Ridgewood 1-0 in the D III title game. After beating Roger Bacon on Saturday in the State semifinal game 12-7 in a ‘wild and woolly’ game, this game would turn into a pitcher’s duel between the Cavs Jacob Wenning and Ridgewood’s Koleten Smith.
Coldwater’s Jacob Wenning threw a complete-game 4-hitter, walking one and striking out 3 and his defensive play would end the game with a runner on second base and just one out when he caught a line drive back to him and would double up the runner and that would end the game. Smith gave up just 3 hits and one walk in the loss.

In the fourth inning Wenning would help his own cause when he would pick up the Cavs first hit of the night with one out in the 4th inning. That would lead to Wenning scoring with two outs on Jake Hemmelgarn’s RBI single. That would turn out to be the only run either team would score.
The ultimate reward for coaching summer baseball 10 plus years with these 7 seniors, so proud. #cavengers #2019 #statechamps #fam pic.twitter.com/ok6fCMcCqE
